| First day of school! |
I had my marine biology class first thing and it is a four hour long class! Whew crazy. But she gives us a 20 minute break and she said we will usually get out a little early. After class, I went with some of my friends to hunt down a place to buy a cheap phone. My friend Zach has resigned to be called Sack for the next 6 weeks because it is difficult for the people here to pronounce the Z. Bahahaha I couldnt help but laugh at that. We walked around for a good while just checking out local shops and the cheapest phone I could find was this little beauty:
It was only $40 bucks! I have this feeling we are being grossly ripped off with phones in America. That $40 included the SIM card which give me my phone number (which is 8775-2670 weird huh?) and a bunch of minutes that will probably last me until I leave for home in like 7 weeks. It even has a little tv built in, all I have to do is pull out the hidden antennae and pick up channels! And a music player and even a camera and little flashlight. It does feel a little like a single drop on the cement will break it past the fixing of even Macgyver, but hopefully I will be kinder to this one than the one I have from America. You can even have two different SIM cards in the same phone thus you can have two different phone numbers. "Ahh, para dos novias!"
After the phone episode, I had my Conversation Spanish class and let me just say, WAAAAAAYYYYY over my head. She said maybe two words on English the entire class, the whole syllabus was in spanish, and I understood next to zero of what anyone was saying. Yes indeed far too advanced for me so I am switching to another spanish class. Sad side though, the only other one I can take is the beginners class because they dont have an intermediate, so Im just going to audit it and enjoy taking an easy spanish class for the first time in my Minors career. After class we had orientation where I heard over and over and over again to make the most of this adventure, which I can assure you I have been doing and will continue to do. The video we watched was actually pretty funny and it just talked about how pedestrians DO NOT have right of way here and you will literally just get run over, they seriously dont care. Its crazy. I was already almost hit by one car, I had to jump out of the way (dont read that part mom). Then we had a nice group dinner where we got a chance to get to know all the other students that didnt participate in the Drake Bay week. I went out to my first Tico bar and just had me a good ol Coca Cola, oh yes I am such a rebel. Then I took home my first taxi, like a boss. All in all, another fantastic day here in the Rich Coast. I realize I have posted no pictures of my home or school or anything, that will be my next to do.
